My new favorite restaurant/bar/place to buy macarons!

Bottega Louie is amazing, and I am awarding it my favorite new restaurant in Los Angeles! I read some great reviews about it and wanted to check it out. Let me just say that they have a 38 degree manhattan which, in case you wanted to know, is THE perfect temperature for a manhattan.

They have unbelievable pastries and sweets, amazing cupcakes and the best macarons this side of Ken's bakery in Portland.

Everthing is done to perfection. It is exactly the kindof place I want to meet my ladies for lunch after manis & pedis and shopping. I'm taking you there when you come to visit!

Are you sick of me pretending my cat is a person yet?

I was quite surprised to learn that Strudel has been living a secret life as a french pirate with a penchant for gold jewelry. I wonder where she is stashing all her loot?

Scott visits Los Angeles!

I was so excited that Scott came to visit this last weekend! His plane landed just after midnight last Thursday, and first I had a few hours to kill between work and the airport. The Sartorialist, the first of the street style bloggers, was in town for a signing of his new book (named surprisingly, "The Sartorialist") and I really wanted to get my copy signed. First, I had to find the Beverly Center, navigate through the eight floors of a giant parking lot, and find my way to the "outside veranda". I just followed all the stylish people and ended up in a really really long line. Basically I waited for an hour and a half, part of that in a crazy loud party, to get my book signed.

It was fine, it's all just a part of getting used to how everything in Los Angeles is turned up to 11. It's quite a change from Portland where no one really cares about the same things you do and you can always get the limited edition cosmetics or whatever. It keeps me on my toes! And I learned that sequins are really really in!
Fun Fact: my absolute favorite street style blogger, Garance Dore, and Scott Schuman are dating! So cute.
Then I picked Scott up at LAX (squee!) and we went to this all nite diner in Los Feliz called Fred 62. It was really delicious, I had the french toast and Scott has what he always does, the same old eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. I think it's cute, of course. We were sitting next to this guy who Scott decided was the Graham of LA, and he was trying to pick up a woman who was much older than him and named Tiffani. The pick up went sour when Graham and Tiffani started fighting about the public option for health care! At one in the morning! So funny.
On Friday we went driving around the city to look at future homes, took pics of some cool graffiti (Scott spotted one by his favorite artist Banksy), walked around on the Santa Monica pier, and learned that no bars in my lame neighborhood stay open past 10:30 on a Friday night!

Sadly I had to work on Saturday at my newish job as a salon receptionist, which I am really liking, but after we drove to Hollywood and had delish bbq at Zeke's Smokehouse. It was in this kindof "rock n roll" shopping mall that was lame, and after we saw this place called Ice Pan where they make you fresh ice cream on the spot, but I didn't want any after I read the brochure and they basically tell you their product may cause you to bring backup pants wherever you go. No Ice Pan for me!
All in all it was a really fun weekend and I can't wait for more visitors and to discover more exciting things to do here! Miss you all!

Remember when you used to get your new issue of Domino in the mail and how excited you were? Now, thanks to Lonny, you can have that same feeling once again! They have done a fine job and I'm so excited for the next issue!

Man Shops Globe

I am loving this new TV show "Man Shops Globe" on the Sundance Channel Wednesday nights at 10:00 PM! Cameras follow Keith Johnson, buyer at large for Anthropologie stores as he travels to exotic loctions and buys things. What girl wouldn't want this job?

Weekend Round-Up!

First I think, some shopping:

I really like the Vera Wang for Kohl's line. It seems a little spendy at first, but it's always on sale! Normally I wouldn't spend money on new clothes in these risky financial times, but I just got a job, working as a salon receptionist. Squee!!!
Then I think I will make this delicious Fettucine with Zucchini in a Saffron Cream Sauce.
Also, I think it's about time I saw Coco avant Chanel. I heart Audrey Tatou.

Then to round it out, going to Diddy Riese again! This time I think I will get the chocolate cookies with mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Adventures in Cemetaries

I went to see some movie stars graves yesterday. It was kinda creepy. Here are some photos!

I heart Oscar Levant.

Showdown!

Everyone knows that my cat Strudel is obsessed with Lil Wayne (she might have gotten that from me). She's always talking about how she wants to take him down in a rap-off. Today I will offer Strudel the opportunity to face off against Lil Wayne in the form of breakfast foods. Strange, I know. LW steps up first, with this to offer:

Lil Wayne drawn in syrup on a pancake! What could be better? Perhaps this:

Strudel on Toaster Strudel! Pretty good, but...

Strudel behind bars on Toaster Strudel! Check and mate. The ball is in your court Lil Wayne!

Cracker Necklaces

First there was this, which I was lucky enough to get for Christmas:

And then this, so excited when I received it on my Birthday!:

Next: Chicken in a Biskit for Valentines?

My favorite thing about L.A.

So far my favorite thing about Los Angeles is this wonderful little place called Diddy Riese. Here's the scoop: Little storefront by the UCLA campus in Westwood, and always a long line to wait in. You pick two cookies (choose from chocolate chip, chocolate chocolate chip, snickerdoodle, M&M, white chocolate macadamia nut, etc.) and then you choose an ice cream and they make you an ice cream sandwich for $1.50. $1.50 PEOPLE!. That's a freaky deaky good deal! And it's so tasty! The cookies are the perfectly soft, and huge, and the ice cream is delicious of course. I see myself stalking this place a lot in the future!
