YM no more.

For some reason, mentions of YM Magazine have ruled my life lately. First on blogs, then it came up in conversation last night. None of us could remember what the latest explanation of what YM stood for was. This certainly is a pointless topic, but I wanted the people I was chatting with to know the answer to our query. So here is what I found:

"YM was a U.S. magazine geared towards teenage girls. It was the second-oldest girls' magazine (the oldest being Seventeen), having started publication in the late 1950s in a small digest-sized format under the title Young Miss. In the 1960s, the size was increased and the title was changed to Young & Modern, and even more recently to Your Magazine, though the abbreviation YM was the title by which it was commonly referred. It ceased publication in 2005 with the December/January issue featuring Usher. Subscribers received Teen Vogue subscriptions in replacement"

I guess its not called anything now. YEARS of making fun of the name, all down the drain. Teen Vogue is better anyway, and it is nice and small sized, fitting nicely in your smaller purses. I admit this is why I ever bought it anyway. So with that, let YM never be mentioned again!

In other news, today at the Republic of Bananas, I told the fitting room attendant that the clothes I tried on didn't work for me, and then he was all- "I will have them burned immediately" I thought that was great, and totally plan to implement this at the Rack.

Um... not so much

So I was driving down I-5 the other day, and I cruised past the sight of the former Waddles restaurant. Now, I have known for some time that the Waddles is being turned into a Hooters (actually pretty perfect given the location, the ultra-trashy Jantzen Beach) but it never really hit home until I actually saw the sign:

Now I am all up in a tizzy about it. You know I HATE change, and I LOVED Waddles. Sure, you might say "I didn't see you there". My trips there were few and far between. I tried to install a mandantory New Years Day trip there for food and milkshakes, but they squashed that by deciding not to be open on New Years Day. Things I will sorely miss about Waddles:
1. The handmade mints at the cash register. They were like eating Girl Scout thin mints, but without the cookie.
2. The insane 25 cent toy machine. I firmly believe that they bought a million toys inside eggs in the 50's and just never ran out. One time, I got a clear pink plastic anorexic kitten. You could seriously count the ribs on the little guy, but his head was big and round and plump, with a huge smile that screamed "take me home and feed me, for the love of god!".
3. The milkshakes. Millions o' flavors.
4. Close proximity to Target. I always enjoy eating a huge breakfast and then wandering around discount stores.
Waddles, you will be missed.

It's SO hard to say goodbyeeee...

Project Runway is over. Sigh.....
First, let me just say that I never ever thought Chloe would win. I was pulling for Daniel V. all the way to the end, UNTIL I saw Santino's collection. It was just beautiful. Glamorous dresses, gorgeous fabrics. Everything just seemed to flow. I even called Lauren and told her Santino had it in the bag. What a shock that Chloe won, I am still reeling. To fill those Project Runway cravings, please visit the Bravo site and check out Santino impersonating Tim Gunn singing Nine Inch Nails "Closer". YOU WILL DIE. From laughing, I mean. And, check out these Project Runway related sites.

Most of all, I love Austin Scarlett's site, it has just enough mystery and glamour to make me happy. I also love that Austin aludes to his "stifled upbringing in a small Oregon town". I just knew we had something in common!

Oscar Party

We all had a fantastic time at Lauren's Oscar party last night. Congratulations to Reese W. for best actress. Michelle Williams had the best dress of the night, she was stunning in Vera Wang. I simply must find out what shade of lipstick she used, it was beautiful. Brokeback Mountain was robbed, of course. On a happier note, many delicious treats were served, including Scott Hunter's always welcome standby, the Jo-Jo, Brady and Beech's fantastic bruchetta, and Lauren's mind blowing Honey Buns cake. I am posting the recipe for the brownies I baked, taken from Chow magazine.

CHOW'S INTENSE BROWNIES
All ingredients should be at room temperature.
Serves 16 brownies.

6 ounces bittersweet chocolate
1/2 cup (i stick) unsalted butter
2 large eggs
1 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon brewed espresso (I used instant)
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour

Preaheat oven to 350, place rack in middle of oven. Line an 8-by-8-inch glass dish with aluminum foil (I used disposable tin pans).
In a saucepan, melt chocolate and butter together just until melted. Set aside and cool to room temp.
Mix together eggs, sugar, cocoa, vanilla, espresso, and salt. Add the cooled chocolate and mix well. Fold flour in just until incorporated.
Turn batter into dish and bake until tester comes clean, 25 to 30 minutes. Cool completely before cutting.

In other news: Project Runway news, that is! I really think Daniel V. won for two reasons. 1: When watching P.R., Daniel just seems a little too happy in all of his interviews. He's not even mad that Tim Gunn doesn't like his stuff. 2: He is a guest on all these tv shows, like Best Week Ever and stuff. Because he won.
Anyway, we shall see! Finale this week!
